NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A new driver service center opened in Davidson County on Monday.
The new Hickory Hollow Center is located at 5216 Hickory Hollow Parkway in Antioch.
The Centennial Center at 6604 Centennial Boulevard and the South East Center at 1601 Murfreesboro Road stopped serving customers last Wednesday.
It’s a change that Michael Hogan, Director of Driver Services for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, says had been in the works for about six months.
He told News 2 the buildings at the other locations were old and didn’t have enough space to accommodate the growing population in Davidson County.
The new location has more space, seating, parking and additional technology, according to Hogan.
Staff from the two locations were transferred to the new center.
“It’s going great. It’s the first day for us opening. Everything is going well. A lot of people are excited about this location because it is a lot bigger than the previous centers,” said Hogan.
Laken Wilson did not know the Centennial Boulevard location had closed until she stopped by Monday morning and saw a note on the door.
She came to the new location and waited an hour and a half to get her name changed and a new driver’s license.
“For as many people as they have in there, I thought the lines moved very well. I think everybody in there was very nice and helpful through the whole process,” said Wilson.
The Hickory Hollow Center will serve customers from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The facility is full-service center.
