MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – Middle Tennessee quarterback Brent Stockstill is the first Blue Raider to ever earn Conference USA’s Freshman of the Year award.
The league’s office announced the honor Wednesday after watching Stockstill pass for a league record 3,678 yards and 27 touchdowns on 301 completions.
All went down as single-season records for the Blue Raiders. He also set single-season marks in attempts, passing yards per game, 300-yard passing games and consecutive 300-yard passing games.
Stockstill currently ranks 11th nationally in passing yards, 15th in passing touchdowns and seventh in completions per game.
The Blue Raiders still have one game remaining; they are set to play in the Bahamas Bowl.
In that game Stockstill can break Jameis Winston’s NCAA Freshman passing record.
He’s only 380 yards behind and only 21 completions away from breaking Jared Lorenzen’s (321) completion record.
