SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Santa visited early this year in Sumner County.
The Rotary Club of Westmoreland held its annual Christmas toy giveaway and shopping spree Tuesday.
The group raised about $5,000 and sponsored 25 children in need this year.
VFW Post 9806 in Westmoreland collected toys to give to the kids.
The Rotary Club got some fundraising help this year from the Westmoreland Care and Rehab facility.
Staff and residents raised more than $2,000 to go toward the shopping trips for the kids.
“It’s wonderful,” said resident Barbara Oliver. “It’s nice to be a part of that.”
Volunteers from Westmoreland Care and Rehab, the local VFW hall, the Rotary Club and others helped take the kids shopping for clothes at Walmart in Lafayette Tuesday night.
The volunteers helped the kids buy $175 worth of clothes.
“It’s the best part of Christmas,” said VFW member Stephen Schools. “It’s giving and taking care of everybody.”
It’s the 15th year the Rotary Club of Westmoreland hosted the event.
