Nashville Christian wins 1A state title

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – After three years of losing in the semifinals, the Nashville Christian Eagles are 1A state champions.

The Eagles took out three years of frustration in a dominating 42-14 win over Greenback scoring 35 points in the first half.

Mareio McGraw led the way with 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns while three other Eagles found the end zone on the ground including quarterback Kyle Tidwell who also had a passing touchdown.

After building a 28-point first half lead, the Eagles were on cruise control in the second half hoisting the 1A state trophy when the clock hit zero’s.

Coach Jeff Brothers said, “Our seniors have been our leaders all year long. It’s a special special group of young men,” adding, “We just leaned on them; they stepped up and made plays all year long. The state championship game is no different.”

Jesse Watson also told news 2, “It still hasn’t got to me yet. I’m still, like, this ain’t real, you know? It’s like a dream but it’s definitely a good feeling.”
