FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Franklin man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault after police say he pulled a gun during a road rage incident.

It happened Wednesday at Mack Hatcher Parkway and Liberty Pike where the victim reported an aggressive driver pulled out a gun.

The victim said the driver used obscene hand gestures, cursed, and finally passed his car while showing a pistol.

Police said the victim gave them the license plate number and a description of the car.

Matthew Wood, 39, was later found at his Franklin home. Officers reported they located a 9mm handgun Wood used in the center of his car’s console.

He was booked into the Williamson County jail and freed after posting $10,000 bond. He’s due in court Dec. 10.

If convicted, Wood faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

“Irrational drivers who turn their aggression into a violent encounter in Franklin will not be tolerated,” the Franklin Police Department said.

The department added, “If you are confronted with violence during a road rage encounter, the best way to protect yourself and your family is to lock your doors and drive away from the danger while calling 911.”
