NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – This is the busiest time of the year for shoppers, and it’s also a busy time for criminals.
On Thursday, businesses throughout Middle Tennessee held a seminar at the Bank of Nashville to discuss how to protect themselves and you from identity theft and credit card fraud.
Last year, over nearly 13 million people in the United States reported becoming a victim of identity theft.
“I think awareness is one of the greatest factors,” said CJ Blankenship with Blankenship CPA Group. “Being aware that this is transpiring on your account, so paying attention if you use online logins, making sure you are using different passwords on those.”
You should also change your passwords multiple times a year and make sure you never leave them saved on your computer.
Accounting experts also say you should check your bank statements multiple times a week.
