BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Deputies in Shelby County, Alabama, arrested 20-year-old Brittney Wayland, a local daycare employee, on four counts of felony child abuse.

Wayland allegedly abused four children at a Vineyard Learning Center, a church-run daycare facility at 4733 Valleydale Road.

Court documents say the alleged abuse occurred between June 2014 and June 2015.

The indictments report that Wayland hit one child “in the face with her arm while on top of a table,” then shoved the child off the table; put a child into “a dark bathroom” and didn’t let the child out “for a long period of time”; physically restrained and force-fed a child; and force fed a child, then held “her hand over his face so he could not spit it out.”

Wayland was booked into the Shelby County jail on Nov. 2. She was released that day after posting an $80,000 bond.
