NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A family of four was able to escape a early morning house fire in west Nashville on Monday after the family dog woke them up.

It happened in the 500 block of Newton Avenue just off Interstate 40 around 4:15 a.m.

Four people were sleeping inside the home when the fire broke out and their dog began barking and jumped on the owner’s back while he was asleep.

The fire began at the residence before spreading to two vehicles parked in the home’s car port.

The resident drove a truck while it was on fire away from the home to prevent the gas tank from exploding and causing further damage.

A woman was taken into custody for outstanding warrants unrelated to the fire. Authorities are questioning her in connection with the fire but the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
