NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Caleb Cannon, the man charged in the Nikki Burgess case, appeared in court Thursday morning for a custody hearing regarding the son he shares with the missing woman.
The hearing was initially supposed to take place on Wednesday, but it was continued after Cannon was taken into police custody.
Cannon is now charged with first-degree murder.
During Thursday’s hearing, it was decided the boy would stay in the custody of family friends.
They told News 2 they are “very happy with the outcome” and glad the child gets to stay part of their family.
It is unknown how much visitation, if any, Cannon’s family will have to the boy.
Specific details of the settlement agreement were not disclosed in court.
Cannon remains jailed on a $750,000 bond for first-degree murder.
He is due in court next Wednesday.
Burgess, 36, has not been seen or heard from since she was reported missing by a friend on May 25, 2014.
