NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of an unborn child in a 2014 crash on Christmas Day.
Jose Lopez was arrested Wednesday on a multi-count grand jury indictment charging him with killing the unborn baby in a two-vehicle collision in the 3900 block of Apache Trail.
He is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, three counts of reckless endangerment, and two counts of vehicular assault.
Authorities said an investigation revealed that Lopez was driving a 2003 Honda CRV north on Apache Trail when he crossed over the double-yellow line at 4:45 p.m. and collided head-on with a 2008 Dodge Avenger.
The driver, Brittany Montanez, was 17-weeks pregnant at the time of the crash.
Montanez, 26, and her front seat passenger, Ladonna Rivers, 25, were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Montanez’ unborn child died the next day.
Lopez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
