TOWN OF ROYALTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — One man is dead after police say a car struck him on Akron Road near Dysinger Road in Niagara County.

A deputy was at the scene of an initial accident, taking a report of a car that struck and killed a dog.

According to authorities, the woman who hit the dog had already left the scene. After this, the dog’s owner reportedly walked into the road to wash the dog’s blood off of the pavement.

As this was happening, the owner was subsequently hit by a westbound vehicle.

The unnamed man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. He was 53 years old.

The car’s driver was not hurt, but he and his vehicle did end up in a ditch.

Charges may be filed as investigation continues. Deputies say impairment or speed could be possible factors in the accident.
