Money for child’s birthday stolen from car in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Authorities are asking for help finding the man who allegedly took a single mom’s money, which she was saving for her son’s birthday presents, from inside her car.

It happened at a restaurant on Dover Road on Tuesday around 5:30 p.m.

The victim is employed at the restaurant and officials said the car was stolen from the business’s parking lot.

The victim’s cell phone and $300 she saved for her son’s birthday were inside the car when it was stolen. Her son’s birthday was Friday but his party had to be cancelled.

However, the victim’s car was recovered

A Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency agent observed a suspicious vehicle matching that looked like the 1999 Silver Chevy Malibu in the area of Carbondale Road.

When the TWRA agent attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect drove away at a high rate of speed.

TWRA and MCSO chased the car to the end of Jarman Hallow Road where the driver blew out the tires by trying to drive on the railroad tracks.

The suspect got out of the car and ran away. Deputies and K-9 units attempted to track the suspect  but were unable to capture him.

Authorities returned the car to the victim but her phone and money were not recovered.

Surveillance photos of the suspect were released

“He got my iPhone with all the pictures of my son. I will never be able to get that back,” said the victim. “But I am grateful the deputies were at least able to recover my vehicle. It could have been worse.”

The suspect was described as having short brown hair and an unkempt beard. He appeared to be between the ages of 22 to 30 years old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall and around 150 to 170 pounds.
