HOUSTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A young couple and their 11-day-old baby were killed in a head-on crash in Houston County Monday evening.
The two-car crash happened on Highway 13 around 5:15 p.m. near the Houston and Humphreys county line.
Officials on the scene said the couple, 19-year-old Kassidy Leonard and 20-year-old William Griggs were on their way to visit family along with 11-day-old Kimberlynn Griggs when the driver of a pickup truck crossed the double yellow lines and hit their sedan head-on.
The truck overturned and landed on its top, while the sedan left the right side of the road.
The 37-year-old pickup driver was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in unknown condition.
A crash report indicates that Griggs was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and Kimberlynn was in a car seat. Leonard was not wearing a seat belt at the time, but authorities stated that the restraints would not have made a difference in this case.
Investigators told News 2 they have an idea of what led to the crash but aren’t prepared to release more information at this time. Charges are pending.
