NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Nashville family will appear on ABC’s hit-television show “Shark Tank” Friday night in an attempt to get money to increase their unique product’s production.
Don Hejny said he came up with his invention, “Nerd Wax,” a solution that helps glasses stay in place on a wearer’s nose, about five years ago while he was working as a touring audio engineer.
“I was working with an artist named Julianne Hough and she was standing on stage. She was wearing these huge aviator sunglasses and she was playing acoustic guitar and singing. Every two seconds her glasses would slide down and she would have to stop what she was doing and push them back up,” he recalled.
Hejny said it was that moment when a light bulb went off and he came up with the idea for a product a person could apply to their glasses to hold them in place.
“I just started ordering difference products,” he recalled. “I came up with the idea, I turned my kitchen into a lab and I would take it and test it out on myself on the road. Then I would come home and see what worked and what didn’t. It took me about two or three years to figure that out.”
Hrejny said he and his family had a great experience on the show.
“When we went through the process for Shark Tank, the kids were like, ‘We want to go on the show so we got to bring our kids,’ and they loved it,” he said.
Nerd Wax is available for purchase. A tube of the special wax costs $10.
