CLAY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Schools in Clay County closed as of midnight Friday.

The school system and school board could not approve the budget before the Oct. 1 deadline, forcing schools to close. After Basic Education Program funding cuts, they could not come to terms.

The originally scheduled fall break for the county falls Oct. 12 to Oct. 19.

Director of Schools Jerry Strong said they will have a court hearing with the county commission and the school board on Oct. 19.
