CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Two men were sentenced to prison for a violent Clarksville home invasion that left one dead in 2011.

Authorities said Michael Massey, Demario Winston and others attempted to rob a home on May 7, 2011 by using a sledgehammer to gain access.

According to a release, the men had been advised that a large amount of cocaine and cash was stored inside a safe in the basement’s home.

Once inside the home, Winston, who was armed with a gun, engaged in a gun fight with the homeowner on one level of the home as conspirators tried to force another occupant to open the safe.

The occupant, Raul Triana, was pistol-whipped before he was ultimately shot and killed.

Both men later pleaded guilty to the crime.

Both men were sentenced to 28 years in jail.
