NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Since News 2 featured the story of a professor who picked up a student’s toddler during class and kept teaching, the student and the professor have been featured in articles and talk shows all over the country.
Amanda Osbon and Joel Bunkowske have appeared on network and cable news shows like Good Morning America, Fox and Friends, and have been interviewed by newspapers and magazines like USA Today and Glamour.
Osbon’s story became an internet sensation after she snapped a picture of Bunkowske holding her child during a public speaking class.
The single mother couldn’t find a babysitter, so she had to bring her son, Xzavier, to class with her.
The toddler got up during class and ran to the professor, so Bunkowske picked him up and continued with the lesson without skipping a beat.
“This is just one of those life circumstances,” said Bunkowske. “And when life happens, I think a great university needs to care enough to be able to say, ‘We’ve got polices, but people come first.’”
Osbon says since her story has gone viral, single parents like her have reached out, saying she’s an example that nothing should stop someone from following their dreams.
“You can’t ever give up,” said Osbon. “No matter what happens in your life, you can’t give up.”
