MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) – A local pug has entered the 2016 presidential campaign as a way to raise money for a Mt. Juliet animal rescue.
Mildred, a permanent resident at the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary, entered the race on Tuesday.
In the one-eye pup’s parody campaign ad on Facebook, Mildred is touted as a “Pug you can trust” and someone who will “work like a dog for American jobs” and is “determined to lick rising healthcare costs.”
Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary launched Mildred’s campaign as a way to give social media users a break from election coverage and to help raise money for the organization.
In just 48 hours, the nonprofit raised $10,000 with t-shirt sales.
All funds raised will support the nonprofit’s mission of providing a loving home, good food, high quality vet care, compassion and comfort to senior dogs for the remainder of their lives.
