Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Dickson County

DICKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was killed Friday in an officer-involved shooting in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee, about an hour west of Nashville.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the 10:30 a.m. shooting that happened on Freeman Loop Road.

Gregory Herrell, 47, was fatally shot during an interaction with two Dickson County police officers.

Authorities responded to Herrell’s house for a welfare check. According to TBI, one of the deputies discharged a weapon during the interaction.

Authorities are unsure of what caused the weapon to be drawn and that will be a part of TBI’s investigation.

News 2 learned the victim died on the way to the hospital.

There is no word on if the officer involved in the incident was injured. Additional information was not immediately known.
