Rutherford Co. sheriff tells 3rd in command ‘his services are no longer needed’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Sheriff Robert Arnold told the deputy chief of the sheriff’s office “that his services are no longer needed” Friday morning.

Spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni confirmed that Virgil Gammon is no longer with the department.

Gammon also announced his firing on his Facebook page, saying, “To all my Facebook friends, this is notice that I no longer work for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. I was just to [sic] by Sheriff Robert Arnold that my services are no longer needed. 38 years of service. Fired.”

He was third in command at the sheriff’s office.
