MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – After closing its iconic Nashville location after 40 years in May, Sub Stop will soon open a new restaurant in Murfreesboro.
The new sub shop will be located on Vine Street, near the downtown Square, in a signature hot pink building.
“The color of the business changed to pink 20 years ago. It was done to help increase the business during a slump,” explained new Sub Stop owner Travis Millwood.
Millwood told News 2 Murfreesboro was the ideal place for the comeback of Sub Stop.
“Murfreesboro is projected to double in population over the next 10 years,” he said.
Finishing touches are being put on the building.
“Plumbing, electrical, cabinet work needs to be finished,” Millwood said.
There is a custom Sub Stop sign framed with re-claimed wood, but other wall coverings are being designed which will include a mural of the Nashville store.
Midtown’s Sub Shop closed its Broadway Avenue location, near Music Row, in late May after the building it was renting was sold to make way for SkyHouse, a 25-story luxury apartment building.
Millwood and his wife purchased the shop back in July.
“We knew exactly what we wanted to do and move forward with this deli,” Millwood said.
Customer Tom Harris couldn’t be more excited.
“The service is always excellent, it’s top quality,” Harris said, adding the food is next to none.
The sub shop features fresh baked bread, high quality meats and great prices.
“You got to have the rye roll, the rye sub roll and anything, the tuna fish is great,” Harris said. “I love the Italian sandwich.”
Sub Stop Murfreesboro is scheduled to open October 24, the same Saturday as the Harvest Day Festival up the street in Cannonsburg Village.
Two of the original employees from the now-closed Nashville location, including Judy Hall, one of its former owners, will be working at the Murfreesboro location.
Millwood said he is also planning to open locations in Nashville and Brentwood.
