WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) –The Director of Transportation of Wilson County Schools, Tiffany Lowery, was terminated Monday, according to Director of Schools Dr. Donna Wright.
Officials at a Wednesday briefing said that although Lowery brought many great ideas to the position, they believe she was in “over her head” and not equipped for the position.
Dr. Wright stated that Lowery had not had that level of responsibility previously, and went on to describe the reasons behind disciplinary action taken against her.
Incompetence, inability to command respect among employees, and failure to carry out duties were a few of the reasons cited.
Lowery was also accused of creating an unsafe environment for students on buses with daily bus route changes, many of which parents were never informed of. She allegedly also failed to order drug testing for drivers involved in accidents, as required.
The former director is also accused of creating a hostile work environment by speaking about drivers with other drivers.
“Multiple reasons factored into the decision to terminate Ms. Lowery, but the bottom line is the decision was made in the best interest of the students and operations of Wilson County Schools,” said Wright.
The operational director of transportation, Shane Cook, has been appointed as interim director until a permanent replacement can be appointed.
Wilson County School’s will now seek a director with previous experience in a similar position. Officials say they will not rush a decision.
