NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A two-mile stretch of Interstate 40 on the west side of downtown Nashville is closed this weekend for bridge construction.
The closure went into effect Friday at 8 p.m. and continues through 6 a.m. Monday.
I-40 will be closed from the I-40/I-65 split south of downtown.
Herman Street will also be closed from 10th Avenue to 16th Avenue.
During the closure, all traffic will be detoured to allow crews to remove and replace the I-40 bridge over Herman Street.
The twin bridges over Herman Street are expected to be the most challenging of the Fast Fix 8 project.
While the closure is in effect this weekend, there will be no on or off-ramp access at Demonbreun Street, Broadway, Church Street or Charlotte Avenue. The ramp to I-40 West from Second and Fourth avenues will be closed.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible during the closure. Drivers who must be in the area are encouraged to plan ahead and allow themselves plenty of time.
Message boards will be activated to alert motorists to the closures and to alternate routes.
Dial 511 from any landline or cell phone for travel information.
This weekend’s closure is the third of 13.
