MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department, alongside other agencies, will offer free car seat checks next week as part of Child Passenger Safety Week.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, the car seat checks will be offered at Station 9 located at 802 Cason Lane from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Murfreesboro Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office will assist in the car seats check during at event at Toys R Us located at 2075 Old Fort Parkway from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children,” explained MFRD Assistant Fire Marshal and Child Safety Seat Coordinator Carl Peas. “When used correctly, child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers in passenger cars and 58 percent and 59 percent respectively in light trucks.”
