SANFORD, Fla. (WKRN) – A Florida man was arrested on attempted homicide and child abuse charges Tuesday after police say he stabbed a woman and tied up her grandson.
The woman was found by Seminole County Sheriff’s Office deputies inside an apartment with lacerations to her neck. She was unresponsive at the time.
Deputies then found her 12-year-old grandson inside one of the rooms with a cut on his face.
The boy reported he heard his grandmother yell for help, went to see what was going on, and saw 53-year-old Robert Cyrus hitting and stabbing her.
Authorities say the boy tried to intervene when Cyrus attacked him with the knife, cutting his face.
Cyrus is accused of then tying the boy’s hands and feet and putting a cloth in his mouth before taking the victim’s car keys and fleeing.
The boy was able to free himself and call 911, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.
He was treated at a local hospital and released into the care of other family members. His grandmother has also been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
Cyrus was located and arrested later that same day by authorities in Fulton County, Georgia. He was extradited back to Florida and booked into jail.
