NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Nashville Zoo announced the winning name for a giraffe born earlier this summer.
The name, Enzi, which is Swahili for “powerful,” was decided on through a naming contest.
Enzi was born on July 9. He weighed in at more than 170 pounds and stood over six feet tall at birth.
The contest not only helped named the baby giraffe, but also benefited Jeans for Giraffes, a conservation initiative that recycles denim into home insulation with proceeds benefiting conservation projects in Africa.
The contest helped raise more than 700 pairs of jeans for the conservation.
Enzi is already on display at the zoo.
