GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – A back to school tradition is underway in Middle Tennessee as students help kick off News 2’s annual Food 2 Families campaign.
For the next four weeks, students at Union Elementary School in Gallatin will donate non-perishable food items that will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The ‘Can Man’ danced his way through the school Monday in Gallatin at a pep rally to help get the kids excited about the campaign.
For the past 31 year, News 2 has partnered with Second Harvest Food of Middle Tennessee and area schools to collect food for families in need.
“It’s amazing the people who are even homeless here in Sumner County. So we try to teach the kids that it’s important to help everyone right here in our community,” said Danny Sullivan, the Principal of Union Elementary.
Last year, students gathered more than 3,100 food items.
