NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Tennessee Democratic lawmakers argue that the condition of two Morgan County officers who were assaulted Tuesday morning were worse than reported by the Department of Correction.

A news release Tuesday stated an officer was injured in a minimum security zone at the Morgan County Correctional Facility. A report stated that the inmate struck the officer when he was stopped for “corrective action.”

Authorities said it appeared the inmate was attempting to hide contraband.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of “non-life threatening injuries” according to the release.

But the lawmakers contend that two guards were injured, and one of the guards sustained a broken orbital socket, a broken nose, a cracked thumb and had to receive 12 stitches in his lip. The second officer underwent treatment for torn muscles in her chest wall.

They released images of one of the officer’s injuries during a media conference Wednesday.
