NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man with a suspended license caught driving under the influence with a one-year-old child inside his vehicle was taken into custody by Metro police.
Police responded to 1808 West End Ave. after reports of the situation. When they arrived, Dashaun Hickerson was in a drive-through with his engine running.
The responding officer noticed Hickerson had slurred speech and a delayed response to questions. He also struggled to unlock his doors and exit the vehicle.
Hickerson told the officer he had not been drinking, but had taken a sleeping pill. He submitted to a field sobriety test that ultimately indicated “multiple levels of impairment,” according to the officer.
He was taken into custody for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI with a child in the vehicle.
A search revealed 5 Oxycodone and 2 Zanex bars, and he later admitted that he had taken some of the Zanex.
Hickerson’s license was suspended at the time, and a search of the vehicle revealed a small handgun in the center console that was loaded.
