FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Tennessee police officer was arrested on theft charges and placed on leave with pay.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began looking into 43-year-old Richard Steelman on Aug. 11.
During the investigations, agents reportedly found that Steelman, who was an officer with the Fayetteville Police Department, received a check for $546.56 on March 16 for in-service training.
A few months later, Steelman allegedly reported the check missing and was issued a replacement check.
The replacement check was cashed on July 30, but agents learned six days later he then cashed the initial check he reported missing.
The TBI arrested Steelman Thursday morning and charged him one count of theft. He was booked into the Lincoln County Jail and released on his own recognizance.
