Theaters stepping up security after Antioch attack

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – After the attack at the Carmike Hickory 8 movie theater in Antioch last week, some theaters have decided to increase their security.

An employee at Regal Cinemas Providence 14 in Mt. Juliet told News 2, bags will now be searched and a police officer will be on site at all times.

The Belcourt Theater in Hillsboro Village posted the following message on Facebook and on its doors:

“For all of us, the news from Antioch this afternoon was heartbreaking. For the time being…and for everyone’s ease of mind, we ask that you please leave your large backpacks and bags at home or in your car’s trunk when you come to the Belcourt. Movie theatres have always been places for entertainment, delight and inspiration. They still are.”

Crews have been cleaning the Carmike Hickory 8 theater in Antioch inside and out. Employees have not said whether any additional security measures will be in place when the theater reopens.

Metro police have had a presence there since the shooting on Wednesday.
