Man dies after being struck by train in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man fell into the Cumberland River after being struck by a CSX train in Nashville Sunday.

Police said a 60-year-old homeless man was walking on the railroad bridge at First Avenue and Gay Street, behind the Hill Detention Center, around Noon when they heard a train approaching.

They reportedly ran and the victim’s friend was able to jump off the tracks, but the victim was hit and then fell into the Cumberland River, He was rescued by the Nashville Fire Department and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim’s name wasn’t released while officers notify his next of kin.
