MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – A top brass in Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department is back at work after being disciplined for violating county policy.
Major Detective Bill Sharp was accused of running his private business while on the clock.
He returned to work Monday after being suspended with pay for the past few months.
An internal investigation revealed Sharp was using his sheriff’s department computer to send and respond to hundreds of emails for his private business SharpTAC, a training and consultant company for law enforcement agencies.
According to documents obtained by News 2, Sheriff Robert Arnold suspended Sharp for 5 days without pay for violating county policy.
Sheriff Arnold also ordered Sharp to pay back $1,625 to the sheriff’s office training fund, which is how much he was paid by the county for five deputies to attend a criminal investigations in-service training class. Five other deputies got to take the class for free.
