Marine killed in Chattanooga shooting will be buried with full honors

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WATE) – Staff Sgt. David Wyatt will be buried with full honors at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

An obituary posted on the website of the Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel said Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, 35, one of the five service members killed when a shooter attacked during a shooting spree at a recruiting center and another U.S. military site, will be buried in the place he called home. It is the first funeral plans announced for any of the five victims.

“Because of his love for the Chattanooga community and their outpouring of support during this time, his family has chosen to lay him to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors,” Wyatt’s family said in his obituary.

Members of the U.S. Marine Corp that served with Wyatt will be active and honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, family is asking contribution be made to the Boy Scouts of AmericaToys for Tots or the Forgotten Child Fund.

The obituary goes on to say that “David will always be remembered for the heroic way in which he lived, served, and died.”
