App leads police to arrest east Nashville burglary suspect

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A burlgary suspect is behind bars after a woman traced her stolen phone using the “Find my iPhone” app in east nashville.

According to an affidavit, 19-year-old Malcolm Whitson broke into a car on May 17 while it was parked at South 11th Street and Russell Street in east Nashville.

Whitson allegedly stole a purse and cell phone from the car while the victim was attending church and then made purchases at Mapco and Walmart.

Police were able to pull surveillance video of Whitson making purchases at the two locations.

The victim was able to track her stolen cell phone to South Fourth Street where she recovered it.

Items purchased with the stolen credit card were also discovered at that location.

Whitson was booked into the Metro jail and  faces multiple charges including theft, burglary, and fraudulent use of a credit card.  His bond has been set at $36,000.
