CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man shot and killed 4 marines and injured a police officer in Chattanooga Thursday.

Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez lived with family in Hixson, Tennessee. The head of the homeowners association described the 24-year-old as “quiet and nice” and “active in sports.”

“We’ve never had any problems like this, I’d never suspect anything,” one neighbor of Abdulazeez said.
Another neighbor told News 2 that he was “just a neighbor like anybody else,” and he would walk around the neighborhood, wave at people and say hi. “I’m in shock, really,” he said.

Karen Jones, who has lived next door for more than 10 years, said “We enjoyed them. We had been over to dinner at their house.”

As the FBI investigates, more information becomes available, including allegations of abuse in his home. His mother filed for a divorce 6 years ago, but withdrew the complaint days later. The file accuses Abdulazeez’s father of sexual assault and domestic abuse.

The FBI confirmed Abdulazeez spent several months in the Middle East, for reasons that remain unknown.

News 2 also learned that Abdulazeez worked in Franklin for a period of time.

Friends say that in the years they have known him, he had never said anything about the United States or the military.

Abdulazeez graduated from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in engineering.
Two women were detained on the scene.
