Auburn favored to win SEC crown

SEC Media Days

HOOVER, Ala. (WKRN) – Sometimes voting just does not go the way anyone expects.

Thursday at the SEC’s Media Days in Hoover, Alabama, the league announced to the media Alabama to win the SEC West, but SEC West rival Auburn was the pick to win the league championship.

That’s statistically impossible because the West champion meets the East champion each year in the SEC’s championship game. That would leave Auburn watching on TV.

Every team in the West got at least one first place vote in the poll and 10 of the 14 schools got at least one vote to be the league’s overall champion.

This year’s poll announced the resurgence of expectations around the Tennessee football program.

The Volunteers are picked to finish second behind the Georgia Bulldogs in the East, but the Vols did get 36 first place votes.
