Vanderbilt students alerted after attempted sexual assault

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A warning has been issued to Vanderbilt University students after an attempted assault on campus Saturday morning.

The attempt occurred at 11:30 a.m. between McTyeire Hall and the Keck Free Election Laser Center near a very open area.

Police said a female student was assaulted by a man while she was walking on 24th Avenue South.

The man reportedly pushed her to the ground from behind, groped her and said “Do not make a sound.” The student yelled and ran towards Medical Center East.

The suspect fled on foot and campus police believe he has left the area.

The suspect was described as an African American male, 6 feet 2 inches tall and in his late 20s. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt with knee-length blue shorts, dreadlocks pulled into a pony tail and carrying a backpack.
