OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A home under construction was destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning in the Lakewood community.
The fire began around 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Drive, which runs along Old Hickory Lake.
The home had no electricity and was six weeks from being ready for the homeowners to move in, according to the sister of a homeowner who spoke to News 2 off-camera.
Nashville Fire Department District Fire Chief Donald Alford said, “There is not electricity coming to this house so we’ve had a fire investigator on scene since this morning, and it does seem to be suspicious in origin.”
The Nashville Fire Department said the home measured 6,000 square feet and is now considered a total loss. The value of the home was estimated to be over $1 million.
At least one neighbor reported seeing people running from the home prior to the blaze, but fire officials have not yet confirmed that account. Investigators spent Saturday interviewing witnesses and trying to determine the cause of the fire.
Chief Alford told News 2 the home would be cordoned off and is now considered a crime scene. Alford said a preliminary report would be available in 3-4 days.
No one was injured.
