Police: Toddler inside home when man shoots girlfriend in east Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – An east Nashville woman was reportedly shot by her boyfriend late Monday night while her 3-year-old child was inside the home.

It happened around 11 p.m. at South 7th and Lenore Streets.

According to an affidavit, Richard Clark and his girlfriend were arguing about her putting her feet on the dash of his car. The argument escalated and she reportedly hit him and knocked him down.

Clark, 48, told officers that he is on crutches and struggled to get back up. Once he was in the bedroom, he claimed his girlfriend went after him again so he grabbed a gun off the dresser and it went off.

Clark’s girlfriend was hit in the stomach and ran to a neighbor’s home for help. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment and is expected to be ok.

The woman’s 3-year-old son was in the room at the time, according to the affidavit, and is now in the custody of a relative.

Clark left the home before officers arrived, the report stated, but went back to the home and spoke with officers. He reportedly threw the gun out the window somewhere along South 7th Street.

When he was taken into custody, officers also found a bag of marijuana in his front right pocket, according to the affidavit. It also stated that Clark is a convicted felon and has four prior drug convictions in the last three years.

He was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, drug possession, a felon in possession of a handgun, and aggravated assault. His bond was set at $120,000.
