LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Authorities are searching for an inmate in Lawrence County after he walked away from work release Monday morning before stealing a vehicle.
Jason Kirk, 35, was working at the county’s landfill when he stole a black Chevrolet Silverado and fled.
The Lawrenceburg Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle from Sandrell’s Used Cars Tuesday.
The vehicle, a 2014 Ford Mustang, was taken during the night after a white male believed to be Kirk was observed on surveillance footage breaking into the business.
Investigators suspected Kirk may be involved and began to search the area after finding cans of Beanie Weenies behind the dumpster of Sandrell’s Used Cars. Kirk had been known to hoard canned foods he retrieved from the landfill.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department located the black Chevrolet Silverado used during Kirk’s escape on the lot of Heritage Automotive, which is close to Sandrell’s Used Cars.
Chester County officials confirmed sightings of Kirk Tuesday driving a dark-colored Ford Mustang. He is believed to be in the Chester County area and may possibly be headed to Madison County.
Kirk was serving time for a parole violation. He is not believed to be armed.
Anyone who sees him is urged to call Lawrence County police at 931-762-1608.
