THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Police say a woman who had been kidnapped was rescued on an Eastern Oregon freeway.
According to the Oregon State Police, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call Saturday morning from a woman who said she had been kidnapped and was trapped in a car traveling on Interstate 84.
Law enforcement stopped the vehicle east of Arlington and arrested the driver, 42-year-old William Cooter of Greeneville, Tennessee.
Police have yet to release details of the incident, but say Cooter and the woman didn’t know each other beforehand.
Cooter has been charged with kidnapping, rape, sex abuse, methamphetamine possession and other crimes. He remains in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility in The Dalles.
