VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WKRN) – A GoFundMe account led to fraud charges against the mother of a child allegedly murdered by her father.
On May 7, three-year-old Camber Chavis was admitted to the hospitalby her parents, Alton and Chanelle Chavis, with skull fractures and other injuries, according to WAVY News.
Camber died the following day and her father was charged with second-degree murder.
Cambers mother, Chanelle Chavis, set up a GoFundMe account and raised about $10,000, according to Virginia police. One woman cut a check for $5,000, but was never made aware of the murder charge.
Police then discovered nearly a month after Camber’s death that her body was still at a funeral home and that her mother never made any funeral arrangements.

A judge granted a $1,500 bond and she is due back in court July 16.
Alton Chavis is still in jail on a $50,000 bond and is due back in courtAugust 3.
Someone eventually came forward to make funeral arrangements for Camber. Police are in the process of returning the GoFundMe donations
