HESIKELL, Tenn. (WATE) – A missing Anderson County boy who apparently wandered away from his home in Heiskell, Tennessee, was found dead in a pond Wednesday night.

Five-year-old Odin Elwood Fitton hadn’t been seen since around 12:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Brushy Valley Road. An Endangered Child Alert was later issued.

Officials say the boy was found in a pond across the field in back of his house. Bloodhounds sensed Fitton’s scent and divers went in.

Anderson County officers organized a grid search in the Brushy Valley Road area with K-9 officers and people searching on horseback throughout the community. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office aided with a helicopter and a search and rescue team.

Deputies say this is one of the most extensive searches they’ve ever done in Anderson County, with close to 100 people searching.
