LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A commissioner from Lincoln County has been charged with assault following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Agents announced Tuesday they began looking into an incident at a market on Huntsville Highway in Fayetteville on March 3.
Authorities learned that on Feb. 28, two men were involved at an argument at the market when one began to drive away.
The driver was reportedly flagged down by Brian Rutledge, who is accused of approaching the man’s truck and grabbing him by the neck during a conversation.
Both men contacted local law enforcement to make a report of the incident. The TBI investigated since Rutledge is a judicial commissioner for the county.
On Tuesday, the investigation led to one count of assault being brought against 48-year-old Rutledge.
He was booked into the Lincoln County and released on his own recognizance.
