NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Vanderbilt Commodores defeated Cal State Fullerton 4-3 on a two-run home-run from Jaren Kendall, advancing to the winner’s bracket of the College World Series.
The game picked up in the 6th inning Monday after weather postponed the contest Sunday night.
That rain may have been the help Vanderbilt needed.
Before the game was postpones, the ‘Dores produced just four hits and was held off the score board.
When play resumed on Monday, Zander Wiel’s double scored Rhett Wiseman who was on base from the night before.
Vanderbilt’s bats struggled to get going again until the bottom of the ninth inning. Wiel started the frame with another double, this one to deep right field.
Two batters later, Bryan Reynolds dropped a hit just inside the left field line to score Wiel from second.
Freshman Jaren Kendall came to the plate next for the Commodores with one out and the runner on second.
Kendall sent a 0-1 breaking pitch into the right field bullpen for the first walk-off homerun in TD Ameritrade Park history and the first in the College World Series since 2009.
The Commodores move on to face TCU on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
