MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire that happened Sunday night in Murfreesboro.
According to the city Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Ashley McDonald, a Murfreesboro police officer saw flames at the back of a building in the 500 block of North Walnut Street just after 11 p.m.
When fire crews arrived, they found the fire at the back door of Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, according to McDonald.
The flames were reportedly put out in minutes and the Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.
“At this time, the fire appears to be suspicious in nature,” said Assistant Fire Marshal Tracy Summar. “We know it started outside on the rear porch. I am following up with some contacts and taking samples to be sent off to the lab to determine if any ignitable liquids were present.”
Pictures show damage to the entryway of the building and the roof.
Summar will be back at the scene Monday morning to continue the investigation.
