Officer disciplined, K-9 removed from force after child bitten

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) – The Hopkinsville Police Department announced Monday they have disciplined a canine officer and removed his K-9 from the police force after it bit a child.

The department began investigating after the May 15 incident at Millbrooke Elementary School.

Officer Jack Lingenfelter and his K-9 Eddie were on duty at the school after school hours when a child ran around the building and Eddie bit the child spontaneously.

Lingenfelter has now been disciplined for failing to maintain control of the dog.

“We realize the public must have trust and confidence in HPD and we work hard to maintain that trust. We take very serious our K-9 unit and will remain committed to ensuring proper handling as we continue to protect and serve the community,” Chief Sumner said.

Eddie was also removed from the force to ensure no further incidents arise.
