NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Florida couple is accused of making counterfeit money to help support their drug habit and pay their rent at a Hermitage motel.

Police said Michael Fenton, 41, and Missy Grooms, 45, were converting $1 bills into $50 bills by bleaching and reprinting the money.

Inside their motel room at the Vista Inn on Old Hickory Boulevard, police discovered a computer, printer and items purchased from area yard sales with the counterfeit money.

The pair reportedly told police the counterfeit operation helped them pay for their rent and helped support a heroin habit.

Both are charged with criminal simulation and are being held in lieu of $100,000 bonds.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
