NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Vanderbilt Commodores defeated No. 6 seed Illinois 4-2 Monday to advance to the College World Series.
Vanderbilt pitcher Phillip Pfeifer went 6.2 innings giving up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Jay, normally a closer for the Illini was given the start against the Dores. Jay gave up four runs on ten hits over 6.1 innings of work.
Dansby Swanson and Zander Wiel both went 2-4 for the Dores, including a homerun from each. Rhett Wiseman also has two hits with an RBI for Vanderbilt.
The Dores return to Omaha with a chance to defend their national title starting with their first game Sunday. They face the winner of Louisville and Fullerton.
